“Bake and take” cake

This week I was looking at another blogger’s site and came across her recipe for “bake and take” cake. It looked ridiculously good and I just had to try it!

Here’s a pic of mine before we demolished it. She said it freezes well but I cant see anyone ever leaving enough to freeze.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ cup boiling water
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ cup shortening (you can use margarine)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup margarine, melted

And then head on over to Emjayandthem for the whole recipe 🙂

  1. Dammit… now I want to bake a cake!

  2. Sounds yummy, will definitely try it

  3. Thank you for the shout out! My Mom’s recipe and she’d be pleased to know you’d shared it ~ it really is an easy, moist and delicious cake. Yes it freezes well but there’s rarely anything left to freeze! Have a wonderful day, MJ 🙂
