If you could pilot any vehicle, real or fictitious, what would it be?

If you could pilot any vehicle, what would it be?

For me it’d either be a vintage Porsche Speedster… or a paraglider :) .

One day when I have a midlife crisis I may just end up in one or the other!

What would your job be if you didn’t need the money?

Post a Day 2011 asks “What would your job be if you didn’t need the money?”

I think I’d do one of two things. I’d either become a post-partum midwife, looking after mothers and babies in a birth centre/hospital. I LOVE babies and I think finding a way to work with them might stop my biological clock whirring so fast it can be used as a ceiling fan.

Or, I’d do exactly what I do now! I’d be a digital project manager – only I’d probably try working in a less frivolous industry than advertising. Every so often it makes me want to throw my hands up and yell “no one is going to DIE people, its ONLY advertising!”

Do you prefer talking or text messaging?

Today’s Post a Day 2011 topic (or yesterday’s, or last week’s, I lose track) is Do you prefer talking or text messaging?

This is the quickest, easiest answer ever. I hate talking on the phone and I don’t give my landline number out to anyone as a result. I far prefer emailing, texting, Facebooking or just getting off my butt and going to speak to someone in person.

I’ve gotten over it to some extent when it comes to Skype – because that’s essentially a phonecall too – but I’ll still only use it if the video is on. As soon as its off I spend the time trying to read my emails at the same time, distracted by anything going on around me and making up excuses in my head as to why I need to get off the phone NOW.

What do you prefer?

What do you want for your last meal?

Today’s Post a Day 2011 topic is what do you want for your last meal.

I’d probably pick something a bit different from what I chose here. I’m thinking I’d start with The Singing Fig’s Aubergine Cannelloni.

Then I’d have an old fashioned roast dinner with all the trimmings, I’m thinking slow cooked lamb, roast vegetables, rice, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding (YES, carbs! carbs! carbs!), gravy, and mint jelly.

Dessert would be lemongrass and ginger icecream – and I’d like the perfect creme brulee on the side.

Now I am starving. What would your last meal be?

If you could master any skill instantly, what would it be?

Today’s Post a Day 2011 topic is If you could master any skill instantly, what would it be?

In the movie The Matrix people could download any skill for use inside the virtual world.

I’d want to be able to pick up languages just by meeting someone who speaks a different language, flicking through a dictionary or visiting a country. As an added bonus I could then quit my office job and work from home as a translator :)

The biggest risk I’ve ever taken

The biggest risk I’ve ever taken is probably something I shouldn’t be admitting on the internet. You know the saying “fake it ’till you make it”?

Well the biggest risk I’ve ever taken was getting a job as a web designer when I’d never so much as looked at HTML before and was an internet newbie. Thank god for Google (and the fact that any monkey can learn HTML in an hour).

I spent a few years designing and building websites before moving into project management and sometimes I still feel like I’m faking it. Funny how no amount of experience and qualifications can take that feeling away.

What was the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?

Whats your favourite number?

This is a bit of an arb Post a Day 2011 topic but what the heck.

My favourite number is 13. I know, its supposed to be unlucky and I’m probably just being obtuse by choosing it but I’ve always liked the number 13 and when I’m feeling a little OCD I like to do everything in multiples of 13. So I’ll only put things in the microwave for 13 seconds, or 26 seconds (tough luck if it burns, I am not opening that door until it hits the magic number), I’ll stir my tea 13 times, I’ll leave my radio volume on 13 (even if its just a tad too loud). Arb, but true!

Whats your favourite number?

If you could work from anywhere…

If you could work from anywhere, where would you want to live?

I think I’d pick Bali or Thailand. But just for 3 or 4 years, I wouldn’t want to relocate permanently. I have this picture in my head of me kicking back in a hammock with my laptop and a cocktail :)

I love the scenery, the food, the climate and it could be good to learn a new language.

For a more permanent move maybe Australia or the US.

What was your favorite class when you were in high school or college?

What was your favorite class when you were in high school or college?

Mine was history. It was interesting, the teacher was passionate about the subject and about teaching and I knew what was expected. I’m in my happy place when things are predictable and I always knew what the examiner was wanting when it came to history exams. If I’d had a bad teacher things probably would have been different.

I love English but I loathed the teacher so it spoiled the subject for me while I was in high school. I hate Geography and couldn’t read a map if I tried but again, the teacher was very good and so I ended up understanding it and doing well.

I wonder if teachers know what a huge difference their teaching style (and personality) has on their students?

If you could bring one fictional character to life for a day

If you could bring one fictional character to life for a day, who would you choose?

Definitely Mr Gru from Despicable Me. I know, I’m an adult… but its still my favourite movie and he’s my favourite character. Besides, just think of all the cool weapons he’d come with…
